Prof. Thomas Müller at Nathiagali Summer School
Every year, physicists gather in Nathiagali, Pakistan, for the International Nathiagali Summer School. They delve into subjects like quantum technologies and particle physics. The school was founded 48 years ago by Nobel laureate Abdus Salam to break Pakistan's scientific isolation.
This year, Prof. Thomas Müller from the ETP spoke in the Summer School section "New Trends in High Energy Physics" about significant discoveries on the way to today's Standard Model of particle physics as well as open questions to which the Standard Model does not yet know the answer. Prof. Müller himself was involved in some of these milestones, such as the discoveries of the W and Z bosons and the Higgs boson at CERN. In his lecture, he was thus able to report on them based on his own experience. He also discussed how the open questions can be answered in the future with the help of the LHC. In these plans, the ETP as well as Pakistani institutes play an important role.
