Glühwein Workshop at KIT
Just before the holiday season, ETP hosted the third edition of the "Glühwein Workshop" at KIT, an informal gathering of experts to discuss the latest developments in machine learning and its applications in high-energy physics. Following a first workshop in Heidelberg in 2022 and the Glühwien meeting in Vienna 2023, the 2024 edition continued the tradition of combining cutting-edge science with seasonal cheer.
The workshop series provides a platform, especially for young participants to exchange ideas, present innovative research, and explore the role of machine learning in tackling the challenges of high-energy physics. From data analysis to detector optimization, the interdisciplinary discussions highlighted the transformative potential of AI-driven techniques in advancing fundamental research.
Beyond the insightful presentations, attendees enjoyed exclusive tours of the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino Experiment (KATRIN) and the Forschungsreaktor 2 (FR2). These visits offered a glimpse into KIT’s state-of-the-art facilities and its historical contributions to nuclear and to particle physics.
